Neonatal Screening of Hearing and Vision
According to the World Health Organization, all babies born should undergo screening of hearing and vision. This is not performed in most parts of Sub-Saharan Africa due to the lack of resources, trained personnel and most importantly, due to the lack of a befitting Model.
In our struggle to initiate this routine neonatal screening in Cameroon, we have started screening all babies who present to the Vaccination clinic of the Douala Laquintinie Hospital for both hearing (using OEAs and AABR) and vision (using ophthalmoscopes). The turnout is massive and so far, our statistics correspond to that reported in literature. Thanks to our collaborators, Aldac.
